Prime Minister Honors Major Saint-Lot for Distinguished Service

Prime Minister Mark Phillips and his wife, Mrs. Mignon Bowen-Phillips, attended a church service this afternoon to honor Major Matignol Saint-Lot, the Divisional Commander of the Salvation Army Guyana Division, for his distinguished service.

In his address, Prime Minister Phillips praised Major Saint-Lot’s transformative leadership during his eight-year tenure in Guyana, highlighting his unwavering dedication to improving lives and promoting human dignity.

“During your tenure, you have led by setting a steadfast example of compassion, integrity, and fierce commitment to the betterment of others. In your ministry, we have witnessed both the exercise of faith and the fulfillment of duty to the human spirit,” he stated.

The Prime Minister also recognized Major Saint-Lot’s instrumental role in garnering public support for the Salvation Army’s social outreach initiatives, specifically through the well-regarded Christmas Kettle Appeal.

“I recall your determined calls for public support through the annual Christmas Kettle Appeal—a campaign you transformed into far more than a fundraiser. Under your leadership, it became a national symbol of unity and generosity. You reminded us, year after year, that our duty to each other extends beyond the doors of our homes, reaching outward especially to the most vulnerable among us,” Phillips remarked.

Additionally, the Prime Minister acknowledged Major Saint-Lot’s contributions to enhancing rehabilitation and recovery services for individuals struggling with addiction. He commended his steadfast leadership of the Salvation Army’s humanitarian efforts during significant challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic.

In closing, Prime Minister Phillips conveyed the nation’s gratitude, emphasizing that Major Saint-Lot’s legacy of compassion, service, and faith will continue to inspire Guyanese long after his departure from the country.
