A Warau indigenous man is in critical condition following a hit-and-run incident on Monday night in Kumaka, Mabaruma. Reports indicate that he was struck by a vehicle driven by a teacher from the North West Secondary School, who then fled the scene.

Cellphone footage captured by bystanders shows the victim groaning in pain on the ground after the vehicle drove away. He was subsequently transported to the Mabaruma Regional Hospital, where he is currently awaiting an air evacuation to Georgetown for further treatment at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
Concerns have been raised about a potential cover-up of the incident, especially after a video of the injured man was leaked, prompting public outcry.
