25-Year-Old Security Guard in Custody Over Shooting Death of Cuban National in Supermarket

News Source Guyana Reports : A 25-year-old security guard employed by KGM Security Service has been taken into custody following the shooting death of a 34-year-old Cuban national at the Real Value Supermarket on Sunday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Pedro Alexander Frometa Slonchak. The tragic incident occurred around 9:47 AM.

According to police reports, the security guard, who was on duty at the time, noticed Slonchak entering and exiting the supermarket multiple times. When he approached Slonchak to question him, a confrontation ensued. The guard alleges that Slonchak, armed with a knife, engaged him in a struggle.

The security guard claims he managed to disarm Slonchak and, during the altercation, stabbed him in the right shoulder and head with the same knife. Following this, he reportedly drew his firearm and fired six rounds, hitting Slonchak four times in the body. The Cuban national collapsed and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities, including police and emergency services, were promptly notified, along with supervisors from KGM Security. Investigators are currently reviewing surveillance footage from the supermarket, which may provide further insights into the incident.

The security guard, a resident of the Sophia community, remains in custody as the investigation continues.
