In just a few months since their opening, five regional hospitals across Guyana have provided care to approximately 25,000 patients, according to President Dr. Irfaan Ali. He made this announcement during the commissioning of the sixth regional hospital at No. 75 Village in Region Six on Thursday.

President Ali highlighted that the five operational hospitals have delivered around 220 babies and performed nearly 100 surgeries, underscoring the impact of these facilities on local healthcare. “For those who question the investment, there is your answer,” he stated.

The newly commissioned hospitals in Enmore and Diamond (Region Four), De Kinderen (Region Three), Bath (Region Five), and Lima (Region Two) are designed to offer modern healthcare services. Constructed by China CAMC Engineering Co., Ltd. and China National Machinery Industry Corporation, these facilities are equipped with state-of-the-art technology to provide world-class medical care, significantly reducing the need for patients to travel to Georgetown for treatment.

Each hospital features 75 inpatient beds in private, air-conditioned rooms, two modern operating theatres, a 24/7 Emergency Department, CT/X-ray machines, ultrasound imaging, full-service laboratories, and dialysis machines. Patients can access a wide range of services, including gynecology, audiology, dentistry, ophthalmology, psychological support, and general medicine.

In addition to the existing hospitals, new facilities are being constructed in Moruca, Kamarang, Kato, and Lethem, along with a Pediatric and Maternal Hospital at Ogle and a modern healthcare facility in New Amsterdam. Major upgrades are also underway at hospitals in Bartica, Linden, and West Demerara, reflecting the government’s commitment to enhancing healthcare access across the country.
