Terbhawan Ramjit, a 38-year-old contractor from Bath, West Coast Berbice, was granted $250,000 bail after appearing before Magistrate Annette Singh at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court. He faces charges of obtaining money by false pretence.

Ramjit pleaded not guilty to allegations that he defrauded Nalini Ramcharan of $1.3 million between June 1 and July 31, 2025, by falsely claiming he could sell her three house lots.
His attorney, Jevon Cox, argued for bail, asserting that Ramjit is not a flight risk. However, the prosecution opposed bail, citing the serious nature of the offense and the significant amount involved, expressing concerns that Ramjit might not return to court.
After considering the arguments, Magistrate Singh granted bail with the condition that Ramjit report to the Brickdam Police Station every last Friday of the month. The case is set to resume on September 10, 2025.
