True Leadership Is About Service and Empathy, Says Deputy Commissioner Budhram
The Guyana Police Force Academy held a graduation ceremony this morning for the Junior Officers’ Course (JOC) and Immigration Course #1/2025 at the Police Officers’ Training Centre, Eve Leary, Georgetown. Thirty participants from various sectors, including the Guyana Police Force, Defence Force, Fire Service, Prison Service, City Constabulary, and Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit, completed the rigorous training program.

The JOC, which commenced on April 7, 2025, was designed for newly promoted officers, middle managers, and individuals in leadership roles. Graduates underwent a comprehensive curriculum covering topics such as strategic planning, crisis management, leadership development, public speaking, and tactical skills.
Deputy Commissioner Ravindradat Budhram delivered the feature address, congratulating the ranks on their accomplishments. He emphasized that “true leadership is not about authority, but about service, empathy, and courage.” He urged the officers to lead by example, uphold justice, and prioritize the safety and well-being of their communities.
Mr. Budhram also addressed the immigration course graduates, highlighting the critical role they play in maintaining national security. He stressed the importance of balancing vigilance with compassion, as they serve as the first point of contact for individuals seeking to enter the country.

The JOC was coordinated by Woman Superintendent Halley-Smith, with assistance from Woman Deputy Superintendent Moore-Bowen, who congratulated the graduates and wished them success in their policing careers.
Also in attendance were Director of the Police Academy Senior Superintendent Sonia Herbert, Senior Superintendent Stephen Telford, and other junior officers and special guests.
This graduation marks a significant step in the professional development of these officers, reinforcing the commitment of the Guyana Police Force to excellence in service and leadership.
