39-Year-Old Sentenced to 18 Months

Imprisonment for Simple Larceny

Parmandan Ramlall, known as Sunny, a 39-year-old resident of Lot 151 Block 12 Non Pariel, East Coast Demerara, was sentenced to 18 months in prison today after pleading guilty to a charge of Simple Larceny. The charge, which falls under Section 164 of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act, Chapter 8:01, was brought against him following his arrest on June 6, 2025.

The incident took place between June 2 and June 3, 2025, when Ramlall allegedly stole from Tavel Accra, a 47-year-old contractor from Enterprise Gardens, East Coast Demerara.

Ramlall appeared before Senior Magistrate Sunil Scarce at Vigilance Magistrate’s Court number 1, where the charge was formally read. After providing an explanation for his actions, he pleaded guilty. The court subsequently imposed an 18-month prison sentence.

This case highlights the ongoing issues of theft and property crime in the region, prompting local authorities to reinforce their commitment to community safety and law enforcement.
