News Room Guyana Reports : A convoy transporting ballot boxes for the upcoming elections was involved in a multi-vehicle accident on the La Bonne Intention public road, resulting in multiple injuries among staff of the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) and party agents.

Yolanda Ward, Public Relations Officer of GECOM, reported that the incident occurred when a private car allegedly failed to heed the sirens of the GECOM convoy traveling from Berbice to Georgetown. Fortunately, Ward confirmed that the ballot boxes were not damaged and were safely transported to GECOM headquarters in Kingston, where they remain secure.
The injured individuals were promptly taken to the hospital for treatment. This incident comes as members of the Disciplined Forces voted on Friday ahead of the September 1 polls, with polling stations closing at 18:00 hours.
GECOM is committed to ensuring the integrity of the electoral process and will continue to monitor the situation closely as the elections approach.
