Police are investigating a tragic accident that occurred on Sunday, August 24, 2025, at approximately 6:30 AM on the Mocha Access Road, resulting in the death of 60-year-old Sookram, a resident of 153 Barr Street, Kitty, Georgetown.

The accident involved a motorcar (PNN 5140), driven by 25-year-old Shawn Alleyne, and a motorcycle (CP 4540) operated by Sookram. According to preliminary inquiries, Alleyne was traveling east along the Mocha Access Road at a high speed when he collided with the motorcyclist, who was proceeding in the same direction.
Following the collision, Sookram was thrown onto the roadway and sustained multiple injuries. Reports indicate that Alleyne did not stop after the accident and fled the scene.
Emergency medical technicians (EMTs) arrived shortly after and found Sookram unconscious. He was transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, where he tragically succumbed to his injuries around 9:50 AM.
The body of the deceased has been taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Mortuary, pending a post-mortem examination.
Alleyne was later apprehended by police and taken to the Providence Police Station along with the vehicle involved in the accident. Breathalyzer tests conducted on him revealed blood alcohol content (BAC) levels of 0.058% and 0.054%.
He is currently in custody as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.
