The Guyana Prison Service has officially opened its new headquarters at Lusignan, East Coast Demerara, relocating from Brickdam.

Located within the Lusignan Prison compound, the new facility provides expanded space for administrative operations, improved staff coordination, and better integration of security and rehabilitation functions. This move enhances oversight and operational efficiency while supporting efforts to reduce recidivism.
The commissioning ceremony unveiled several major facilities, including six new cell blocks, representing an investment of over $2.2 billion. These blocks are designed to improve living conditions and enhance safety.
Key rehabilitative facilities were also highlighted, such as Trade Shops for hands-on training, an Infirmary Annex for healthcare, and a Vocational Training School for education and skills development. Additionally, essential operational facilities, including a kitchen and living quarters for staff, were introduced, emphasizing a comprehensive approach to correctional management.
