Minister Vindhya Vasini Persaud Responds to Tragic Murder/Suicide Incident

Minister Vindhya Vasini Persaud expressed her deep sadness following the horrific events today in which Alroy Solomon reportedly shot and killed his wife, Atiya, before taking his own life. The couple’s young son was also shot and is currently hospitalized.

In her statement, Minister Persaud extended her heartfelt condolences to the families affected by this tragedy. She emphasized the need for support for the child and the grieving relatives, noting that the Child Care and Protection Agency is prepared to assist in any way possible.

“Domestic violence continues to claim too many lives, particularly among women,” she stated. “Despite our ongoing efforts to enhance reporting, support, and response systems, we still witness too many tragedies.”

Minister Persaud urged families of women facing abuse to seek help, encouraging them to reach out for shelter, legal assistance, and psychosocial support. “We have robust support systems in place to assist whenever you suspect that violence and abuse is occurring to a loved one,” she added.

Offering her unwavering support, the Minister prayed for the child’s speedy recovery and reiterated the community’s responsibility to address domestic violence.
