Authorities are investigating the discovery of a firearm and ammunition during an intelligence-led operation in South Ruimveldt that occurred in the early hours of January 1, 2026.
At approximately 03:40 hours, mobile patrol officers observed a motor car traveling along Durban Street. The driver reportedly sped off as officers approached, prompting a pursuit. The vehicle was eventually intercepted at the intersection of Aubrey Barker and High Palm Roads.
A search of the vehicle was conducted in the presence of the driver, the sole occupant, during which officers discovered a suspected 9mm pistol and a magazine containing three suspected 9mm rounds inside the driver-side door.
A 26-year-old male suspect from Lamaha Park, Georgetown, was arrested at the scene and taken to the East La Penitence Police Station. The firearm and ammunition have been lodged as evidence while further investigations are carried out.
The suspect remains in police custody as the investigation continues. Authorities are working to determine the origin of the firearm and any potential links to criminal activity.
