A tragic incident at a gold mining site in the North Pakaraimas has resulted in the deaths of two Brazilian miners after a section of sand collapsed inside a pit earlier this week.

Police have confirmed that the accident occurred at “S” Bend Backdam, Chenapou, where the victims were identified as 37-year-old Cleumiton Da Silva Santos and 44-year-old Antonio Filho.
Preliminary investigations reveal that both men were working inside the mining pit when a sudden sand collapse occurred, trapping them beneath the debris. Thankfully, other miners in the vicinity managed to escape without injury, but Santos and Filho were found motionless and later retrieved from the pit.
Due to the remote nature of the site, the bodies of the deceased miners remain at “S” Bend Backdam as arrangements are made to transport them to Mahdia District Hospital for post-mortem examinations. These examinations will be crucial in determining the exact cause of death.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident, aiming to uncover more details about the events that led to the unfortunate collapse.
