The Assembly for Liberty and Prosperity (ALP) has issued a statement reaffirming its commitment to integrity, transparency, and accountability in public office, particularly regarding allegations surrounding Minister Susan Rodrigues and her financial dealings.

The ALP has raised serious concerns about the acquisition of a US$540,000 property in the United States linked to Minister Rodrigues, emphasizing that the primary issue at hand is not her ownership of the property, but rather the source of the funds used for its purchase, along with the transparency of her disclosures and public explanations.
According to the assembly, the net monthly salary of a Junior Minister is approximately GYD 1,608,214, resulting in estimated earnings of around GYD 96.5 million over a five-year period from 2020 to 2025. This figure is significantly lower than the value of the overseas property, which is estimated at GYD 113.4 million, raising questions about how such an acquisition could be financed solely on a ministerial salary.
The ALP also pointed out that this discrepancy does not account for other financial obligations, including:
Cost of living and personal expenses
Deductions for taxes
Ownership of multiple local properties
A fleet of luxury vehicles
In light of these concerns, the ALP is demanding clear and verifiable answers from Minister Rodrigues regarding her assets, stating that the Guyanese people deserve full disclosure of:
The complete source of funds used for the acquisition of the overseas property and other major assets.
A comprehensive paper trail, including mortgage instruments, loan agreements, repayment schedules, and declared assets.
Confirmation of compliance with all statutory disclosure obligations, including filings with the Integrity Commission.
An independent review of the transactions to eliminate any perception of conflict or undue influence.
The assembly warns that if Minister Rodrigues is unable or unwilling to provide the necessary financial records within a reasonable timeframe, she must resign from her ministerial position to allow for an independent review. They assert that public office demands full transparency and that partial answers erode public trust.
“The Assembly for Liberty and Prosperity will continue to pursue accountability in the interest of maintaining integrity and public confidence,” the statement concluded.
