The Ethnic Relations Commission (ERC) has issued a formal public invitation to Mr. Kidackie Amsterdam, host of the online social media broadcast “Guyanese Morning Time” on KAMS TV, for a mandatory engagement at the Commission’s Secretariat located at 66 Peter Rose & Anira Streets, Queenstown, Georgetown.

This invitation follows multiple unsuccessful attempts by the ERC to contact Mr. Amsterdam directly and through written correspondence sent to the Working People’s Alliance, the political party with which he is affiliated. The ERC seeks to discuss statements aired on his program since 2024 that may contravene the Racial Hostility Act and specific infractions under the Laws of Guyana.
The Commission has expressed concern over a pattern of content that includes:
Racial stereotypes and inflammatory rhetoric
References to violence and provocative statements
A lack of adequate moderation, allowing callers to express divisive content without restraint from the host
As a constitutional body, the ERC is dedicated to promoting harmony and eliminating all forms of racial discrimination. While the Commission respects the principles of free speech, it reiterates that such freedoms come with the responsibility to avoid content that incites hatred or threatens the peace and security of Guyana’s multi-ethnic society.
The ERC aims to achieve the following during this meeting:
Communicate clear expectations regarding responsible broadcasting
Reinforce the legal obligations of content creators under the Laws of Guyana
Collaborate on ensuring that the “Guyanese Morning Time” show promotes respect, unity, and social cohesion
Mr. Amsterdam is requested to visit the ERC Secretariat for this engagement during standard office hours:
Days: Monday through Friday
Time: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM (3:30 PM on Fridays)
The ERC remains committed to fostering a “One People” atmosphere and urges Mr. Amsterdam to respond promptly to this call for dialogue in the interest of national peace and social stability.
