A man and a teenager were brought to justice last Friday in connection with an armed robbery that occurred earlier this month, targeting a Chinese national on the Essequibo Coast. The suspects appeared at the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court, where one was remanded and the other received a sentence.

Carlos Anthony Scott, a 26-year-old labourer known as Bowman, was arrested on January 21 by officers from the Bartica Police Station. He faces charges of Robbery Under Arms, contrary to Section 222(c) of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act, Chapter 8:01. The alleged robbery took place on January 11, 2026, at Lot 23 Zorg Public Road against Lin Sp, a 42-year-old businessman from China.

During the court proceeding presided over by Magistrate Tariq Mohamed, Scott pleaded not guilty to the charges. As a result, he was remanded to prison, with the matter adjourned to February 20 for the disclosure of statements.

In a related case, a 17-year-old labourer from Lot 438 Onderneeming Sand Pitt, also arrested on January 21, faced the same Robbery Under Arms charge related to the incident. Appearing before the same magistrate, the teenager pleaded guilty and was subsequently sentenced to two years and three months in prison.

Police investigations into the matter have concluded, and authorities are continuing to work on ensuring justice for the victims of such crimes.
