A tragic accident on Monday resulted in the death of Felix Smith, a 71-year-old pensioner from St. Monica Village, Upper Pomeroon River, Essequibo.

According to Police Headquarters, Smith was the captain of a wooden boat that collided with another vessel operated by a 36-year-old woman from Karawab Village. At the time of the incident, Smith’s boat had one female occupant, while the other vessel was carrying two passengers.
Following the collision, Smith was discovered unconscious in his boat. He was swiftly transported to the Karawab Health Centre, and due to the severity of his condition, he was subsequently transferred to the Charity Cottage Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The female boat operator is currently in police custody and is assisting with ongoing investigations into the incident. The authorities are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision.
