A century of life has brought James Gladwin Samuels an abundance of memories and unforgettable experiences, as he celebrated his 100th birthday today.

Yesterday, Samuels marked the milestone with family, friends and community leaders at his home at Lot 25, McDoom. A World War II veteran, he served as a signaller in the Royal Corps of Signals, working as a communications specialist in the British Forces.
Samuels enlisted in the army in 1943 and served for three and a half years before being demobilized, officially released from military duty and returned to civilian life. Born on March 22, 1926, he hails from the island of Leguan in Essequibo.
