Disney has confirmed that two major Disney and Pixar franchises are set to return with new theatrical sequels in the coming years.
According to information released during Disney CEO Josh D’Amaro’s first shareholder meeting, both Lilo & Stitch 2—a live-action adaptation of the concept—and Incredibles 3, the original animated follow-up, are currently in active development.
The projects are both expected to debut in multiplexes during the summer of 2028. Lilo & Stitch 2 is scheduled for release on May 26, 2028, while Incredibles 3 is set to arrive on June 16, 2028.
The announcements follow the franchises’ history of commercial success. Incredibles 2 previously held the record as Pixar’s top-grossing film worldwide, earning $1.24 billion, before being surpassed by Inside Out 2. The live-action Lilo & Stitch generated $1.03 billion at the box office.
For Incredibles 3, Disney says it will be written by the franchise creator Brad Bird. While Bird directed the previous two installments, this film will be helmed by Pixar’s Peter Sohn.
Disney’s broader lineup for the period also includes Pixar’s upcoming Toy Story 5, expected to premiere on June 19 of this year, and the live-action remake Moana, scheduled to open on July 10.
