As a result of the collision, he lost control of the motorcycle, during which a suspected firearm fell onto the roadway from his person.

Police said the rider then regained balance and made good his escape further north along Orange Walk.

The suspected firearm was picked up from the roadway and was observed to be a black and silver 9mm Girsan pistol with four matching 9mm rounds of ammunition.

The firearm was escorted to the Criminal Investigation Department, where it was lodged pending investigation.

Investigations are ongoing into the incident. Police are seeking to identify the motorcyclist and determine how he came to be in possession of the suspected illegal firearm.

The recovery of the weapon represents a significant seizure in the ongoing fight against illegal firearms in Georgetown.
