news Source Guyana Reported : A 54-year-old Linden resident, Lester Baker, who was the driver of a minibus that was involved in a fatal accident along the Toka Trail in North Rupununi has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving.

The accident occurred on the night of May 11, resulting in the death of 38-year-old Orin Davis, who was riding his motorcycle when he was reportedly hit down by the bus being driven by Baker.
In addition to the causing death charge, the bus driver was also slapped with a charge of operating an uninsured vehicle and refusal to consent to the taking of a Breathalyzer test.
He appeared at the Lethem Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday where the charges were read to him.
On the charge of refusal to consent to the taking of a Breathalyzer test, the 54-year-old man pleaded guilty and was fined $20,000.
On the charges of causing death by dangerous driving and operating an uninsured vehicle, Baker pleaded not guilty to both charges, and was placed on a total of $410,000 bail.
The matters were adjourned to July 13, 2026, for trial. As a condition of bail, Baker is required to report every Friday to the police.
The case highlights the serious consequences of traffic violations and the importance of proper vehicle maintenance and insurance requirements on Guyana’s roadways.
