Authorities in Region Five are currently investigating a report of sexual assault involving a 26-year-old woman at her Blairmont residence on Thursday night.
According to preliminary reports provided to the Guyana Police Force, the woman was at home with her young daughter when the incident occurred shortly before 10:00 p.m. The victim stated that she was awakened by unusual noises and discovered her brother-in-law inside the home.
The woman alleges that the suspect threatened both her and her daughter, instilling deep fear for their physical safety. She further reported that the suspect demanded a sexual encounter, which she refused, after which he allegedly proceeded to sexually assault her.
Following the attack, the woman reached out to relatives and neighbors who provided immediate assistance. The incident was formally reported to the Blairmont Police Station, and the victim was subsequently escorted to the Bath Regional Hospital to receive medical attention and document evidence as part of the investigation.
The suspect has been arrested by police and remains in custody. He is currently assisting investigators with their enquiries as the case proceeds.
