Three Brazilian nationals were fined $150,000 each on Friday after pleading guilty to charges of trespassing on the Lethem Airstrip.
The defendants, identified as 28-year-old mechanic Jose Carlos Casto Bibeiro of Terezina, 37-year-old carpenter Clebson Raoni of São Paulo, and 35-year-old operator Lucis Silva Marth of Boa Vista, appeared before Magistrate Omadatt Chandan at the Lethem Magistrate’s Court.
The trespassing offence occurred this past Wednesday at the local aerodrome. During Friday’s court session, the charges were formally read to the men and translated by a court-appointed interpreter to ensure they understood the proceedings.
All three defendants entered guilty pleas. Consequently, Magistrate Chandan imposed a fine of $150,000 on each of the men.
