Security Officer Granted Bail After Assault on Partner

A 25-year-old security officer, Kevon French, was granted $100,000 bail on Friday after being charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm on his partner, Althea Morris, during an incident on May 29 in Georgetown.

French appeared before Magistrate Annette Singh and initially did not plead due to the indictable nature of the charge. However, after the prosecution requested a summary trial with Morris’s consent, he pleaded not guilty.

According to reports, Morris, a caterer, had informed French of her plans to attend a wake. When he failed to show up, she decided to deliver meals instead. Unbeknownst to her, French followed her and confronted her after the delivery, demanding to know her whereabouts. During the confrontation, he allegedly slammed her head into a car, resulting in severe facial injuries, including a broken nose.

Morris was hospitalized and required emergency surgery due to ongoing complications from the attack. The prosecution opposed bail, citing the serious nature of the injuries and Morris’s fear for her safety, noting a history of abuse.

Despite objections, Magistrate Singh granted bail with strict conditions, including a 100-yard distance requirement from Morris and no contact allowed. The case is set to return to court on July 4, 2025, with ongoing investigations.
