In a heartfelt tribute to fathers in uniform, the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) held a special observance led by Chief of Defence Staff Brigadier Omar Khan, MSS, along with Branch Heads and Commanders. This initiative, conducted ahead of Father’s Day, aimed to recognize the essential role of military fathers.

The event took place at Base Camp Ayanganna and simultaneously across other GDF bases, ensuring that fathers in every unit were celebrated. Participants received specially prepared hampers and monetary tokens, symbolizing both support and appreciation for their dual roles as protectors of the nation and pillars of their families.
Commanders took the opportunity to personally engage with the fathers, offering words of encouragement and praise. The informal atmosphere made the gesture particularly meaningful, and the initiative was warmly welcomed by the military community.
In his address, Brigadier Khan commended the fathers for exemplifying the strength of the patriarch. He highlighted the parallels between fatherhood and military service, noting that both require courage, resilience, and the ability to lead by example.
“As fathers and soldiers, you shoulder immense responsibilities,” he stated. “You are builders of homes and defenders of the homeland. Your presence lays the foundation upon which discipline, identity, and values are passed on to the next generation.”
This Father’s Day, the Guyana Defence Force proudly honors the men who demonstrate leadership both at work and at home, enriching their communities and serving the nation with dedication.
