Ray Pompey, a 51-year-old resident of Fifth Avenue, appeared in the Bartica Magistrate Court today before His Worship Magistrate Teriq Mohammed, facing charges for driving a motor vehicle with a breath alcohol level exceeding the legal limit.

The charge was brought under Section 39A (1) of the Motor Vehicle and Road Traffic Act, as amended by the Motor Vehicle and Road Traffic Amendment Act #17 of 2022.
Pompey pleaded guilty to the charge and was fined $250,000 or, in default of payment, sentenced to three months in prison. This case serves as a reminder of the serious consequences of driving under the influence.
