Couple Remanded After Drug Bust at Good Hope Residence

A husband and wife have been arrested and remanded to prison following the discovery of narcotics and drug paraphernalia during a police search at their Good Hope residence on the Essequibo Coast, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam).

The operation took place around 2:17 PM on Thursday, prompted by intelligence received by police ranks in the division. Officers informed 56-year-old Shameena Budhoo of their intention to search the premises for firearms, ammunition, and narcotics. Her reputed husband, 30-year-old Otis Gouveia, was present and assisted during the search.

While examining the bottom floor of the house, officers lifted a floor carpet and found a plastic bag containing 76 pieces of a whitish substance wrapped in foil, suspected to be cocaine. Additionally, four small bags containing leaves, seeds, and stems believed to be cannabis were uncovered.

Further searches led to the seizure of three battery-operated digital scales, six mobile phones (three Samsung and three BLU), a smoking utensil, two cigarette lighters, and $9,790 in mixed denominations. Laboratory analysis confirmed that the suspected cocaine weighed 15.1 grams, while the cannabis totaled 4.3 grams.

The couple was arrested and taken to the Aurora Police Station. They appeared before Magistrate Tamieka Clarke at the Suddie Magistrate’s Court on Friday, where they were remanded to prison pending further legal proceedings.
