The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) today successfully carried out an urgent medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) mission for a newborn in critical condition from Region 2 (Pomeroon-Supenaam), following a request from the Ministry of Health.

The newborn, delivered just hours earlier via Cesarean section at the Suddie Public Hospital, was suffering from respiratory distress and required advanced medical care not available at the regional facility.
Responding swiftly, a GDF aircraft departed Base Camp Ayanganna at 13:26 hrs, piloted by Command Pilot Lieutenant Colonel Anson Weeks and Co-pilot Captain Dwight Bonus. On board were two civilian medical professionals and GDF Grade 2 Medic Akeem Martin to ensure the infant’s medical needs were attended to during the flight.
The aircraft arrived back at Base Camp Ayanganna at 14:30 hrs, where the baby was immediately transferred to a waiting GDF ambulance and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) for further treatment.
The Guyana Defence Force reaffirmed its dedication to national service, stating that it remains steadfast in its mission to provide critical emergency support and lifesaving assistance to citizens across the country.
