Bibi Salima Persaud, a 50-year-old housewife, was discovered dead late Friday night at her home on Lot 193 Ivan Road. The prime suspect in her death is her husband, Dinesh Ram, also known as ‘Paul,’ a 38-year-old mechanic.

Persaud and Ram were in a common-law relationship and lived in a one-storey wooden house elevated about three feet off the ground. According to reports, the couple often engaged in heated arguments, with Ram frequently accusing Persaud of infidelity due to her cellphone use. Despite their conflicts, they typically reconciled after each dispute.
On the night of the incident, Sankar, the victim’s son, returned home with his brother around 11:00 PM. Upon entering the yard, he heard Ram groaning in apparent pain. Concerned, he approached and found Ram lying in a pool of water formed by recent heavy rainfall. When Sankar called for his mother and received no response, he checked inside the house and found her lying motionless on the floor with a wound to her throat.
Sankar immediately summoned the police. Upon arrival, officers found Ram in the yard with a green substance around his mouth, suspected to be pesticide poison. He was subsequently taken to Diamond Regional Hospital for treatment.
Police observed that Persaud was lying face up with multiple wounds on her forehead, mouth, wrist, hand, neck, and face. A kitchen knife, covered in a reddish substance believed to be blood, was found on the floor, along with a bottle of suspected pesticide poison near the entrance.
Statements are being collected, and Ram remains under police guard at the hospital. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding Persaud’s death are ongoing.
