News Source Guyana Reports : Former Minister of Local Government Nigel Dharamlall has been included on the national candidates’ list for the People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) in the upcoming elections. Dharamlall, a longstanding executive member of the party, resigned from his ministerial position in 2023 amid serious allegations of rape made by a teenage school girl, which he has consistently denied.

The allegations led to significant public scrutiny, and the teenager later withdrew her complaint just as the case was being prepared for criminal charges. In his defense, Dharamlall characterized the accusations as part of a smear campaign against him.
Following his resignation, Dharamlall maintained a low profile for over a year. He made a notable return at the PPP’s last Congress, where he was re-elected to the party’s executive committee. In recent months, he has been actively involved in the campaign trail as the PPP seeks re-election.
Although he was kept off the main stage during the party’s campaign launch last Sunday, Dharamlall has participated in numerous small community and public meetings, advocating for the party’s agenda. As the elections approach, his presence signals a potential shift in the political landscape and the ongoing dynamics within the PPP.
