The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) has approved six out of seven lists submitted by political parties on Nomination Day, with the only rejection being that of the Horizon & Star Party. This confirmation came from GECOM Commissioner Sase Gunraj.

Friday marked a significant deadline as GECOM officially endorsed the final lists of candidates contesting in the upcoming General and Regional Elections. Major parties, including the ruling PPP/C and the main opposition APNU, faced no issues with their submissions. However, smaller parties experienced last-minute challenges that required amendments to meet the Commission’s requirements.
Parties such as the AFC, Forward Guyana Movement, and We Invest in Nationhood had to rectify errors, including missing names and insufficient candidates to meet minimum quotas in specific categories. They were given until midnight Thursday to address any outstanding issues, as failure to do so would have resulted in disqualification from the elections.
With the final candidate lists now approved, GECOM has set the stage for the next phase of campaigning. This milestone occurs precisely 45 days before the election day in September, leading to an anticipated intense race as parties focus on securing voter support across the country.
