Minister Vindhya Vasini Persaud Addresses Disturbing Incident of Alleged Assault

Minister of Human Services and Social Security, Vindhya Vasini Persaud, has released a statement regarding a disturbing video that surfaced, showing a young woman being violated at a bar in full view of numerous onlookers.

In her statement, she expressed her outrage, noting, “It was most reprehensible to see persons filming the incident rather than helping this woman, and the DJ encouraging the perpetrator to perform lewd acts on the victim.”

Upon learning of the incident, Minister Persaud immediately alerted the Guyana Police Force, and the Ministry of Human Services has been collaborating with them to address the situation. The bar has since been identified and shut down, with several individuals now in police custody.

The Ministry has committed to providing all necessary support to the young woman involved, emphasizing the importance of not sharing the video, as it constitutes a further violation of her dignity.

Minister Persaud called on citizens to be proactive: “I urge persons not to just record these things on their phones but to offer help and report these serious incidents.”

She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to working collaboratively to address this heinous act and ensure justice for the victim.
