People Reports : Malcolm-Jamal Warner, the beloved actor known for his role as Theo Huxtable on The Cosby Show, has died at the age of 54. He tragically drowned while swimming during a family vacation in Costa Rica, a source confirmed to PEOPLE.

Warner’s career began with his iconic role on The Cosby Show, where he portrayed the only son of Bill Cosby’s character, Heathcliff Huxtable, from 1984 to 1992. In a 2023 interview, Warner expressed pride in being part of the series, stating, “The Cosby Show is something that we are all still very proud of.”

Despite the changing legacy of the show due to the allegations against Cosby, Warner maintained his appreciation for the impact the series had on Black and American culture. He acknowledged the complexities surrounding the show’s legacy but affirmed, “I’m still proud of the legacy and having been a part of such an iconic show.”

Following The Cosby Show, Warner starred in several other successful television projects, including the sitcom Malcolm & Eddie, alongside Eddie Griffin, and Reed Between the Lines, where he played Alex Reed opposite Tracee Ellis Ross from 2011 to 2015.

A representative for Warner has not yet responded to requests for comment. The entertainment community mourns the loss of a talented actor who made a significant impact on television.
