Upstate New York: Father Charged with Murder of Daughter in Alleged Kidnapping Hoax

  • News

A tragic incident unfolded in upstate New York when authorities discovered the body of 9-year-old Melina Galanis Frattolin in a shallow pond. Her father, Luciano Frattolin, has been charged with her murder after he falsely claimed she was kidnapped.

According to police, Frattolin, a Montreal resident, reported his daughter missing during a vacation in the U.S. He alleged that Melina was taken by two strangers while he stepped into the woods. However, investigators found inconsistencies in his story and subsequently identified him as a suspect.

Melina was last heard from on Saturday night, shortly before her father reported her missing. The search for her involved multiple law enforcement agencies, including K-9 units and aviation support, until her body was found on Sunday.

Frattolin, who has no prior criminal history, was charged with second-degree murder and concealment of a corpse. He is scheduled for a court appearance later today. The investigation into the motive behind the alleged crime is ongoing, and the cause of Melina’s death is pending autopsy results.

Authorities emphasized the heartbreaking nature of the case, aiming to seek justice for Melina and her family.
