Jagdeo Condemns Attacks on Afro-Guyanese Supporting PPP/C

  • News

Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo, General Secretary of the People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) and Vice President of Guyana, condemned recent attacks on Afro-Guyanese who support his party. He emphasized that the PPP/C is a multiethnic party with a strong record of supporting all Guyanese.

During his weekly press conference, Jagdeo addressed the troubling trend of opposition forces targeting Afro-Guyanese who publicly express their support for the PPP/C, particularly through online platforms. He noted that there appears to be an expectation for Afro-Guyanese to align with the opposition coalition, A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) and the Alliance For Change (AFC), despite their failure to deliver meaningful results.

Jagdeo lamented the labeling of Afro-Guyanese supporters of the PPP as “sellouts.” “All week long, we are hearing this assault on Afro-Guyanese, and it will get worse closer to the elections,” he warned.

He further remarked that the “group think” perpetuated by APNU is being challenged by many, including young Afro-Guyanese who are joining the PPP because they value performance over ethnicity.

Jagdeo urged the public to reject the racist rhetoric propagated by opposing parties and encouraged individuals to support one another in the face of online harassment. “Don’t be demoralised,” he advised those vocal about their support for the PPP/C, reinforcing the importance of unity and resilience.
