David Ragnauth, a 30-year-old truck driver, has been remanded to prison following his alleged involvement in the fatal accident that claimed the life of 23-year-old Alex Persaud on the Supply Public Road, East Bank Demerara.

Ragnauth, a resident of Kalichararan Road, Soesdyke, appeared before Magistrate Wanda Fortune at the Friendship Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday. He faces charges of causing death by dangerous driving and is scheduled to return to court on September 10, 2025.
The incident occurred on August 13, when Ragnauth reportedly attempted to flee the scene but was apprehended during a sting operation conducted by law enforcement.
Persaud, a truck driver from Timehri Base Road, died in what his relatives believe may have been a targeted attack linked to an ongoing court matter. His grandmother, Mary Sunich, recounted that Persaud had parked his vehicle along the roadside with his wife inside, waiting to cross the road to collect his salary from his employer.
According to Sunich, Ragnauth allegedly saw Persaud on the road and struck him down. Persaud was transported to the Diamond Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Family members revealed that Ragnauth and Persaud were scheduled to appear in court on August 18, 2025, in relation to an ongoing assault case. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident continues as the community grapples with the tragic loss.
