The newly constructed AC Marriott Hotel in Ogle, East Coast Demerara (ECD), has begun operations, employing a total of 250 persons, with 98% of staff being Guyanese. This announcement was made by John Aboud, the franchise holder of Trinuyana Investments Incorporated.

Aboud highlighted that employees have undergone extensive training in the hospitality sector and welcomed capacity-building support from the Ministry of Tourism. He also mentioned that the second phase of the project, which includes an 80,000 square foot center and a 180,000 square foot office and professional park, is set for completion within the next three years.
“The investor group wishes to thank the government of Guyana for the confidence placed in developing this project,” Aboud remarked.
President Dr. Irfaan Ali, who was the feature speaker at the inauguration, expressed gratitude to the company for their confidence in Guyana’s economy. He commended the investors for their bold decision, stating that the hotel “sends a clear message beyond our borders,” indicating that Guyana is ready, confident, and committed to quality.
Dr. Ali emphasized that this project exemplifies the unity of regional and local investors around a shared vision for growth. He expressed the government’s eagerness to partner with investors to ensure their success and growth in the region.
The hotel features 152 guest rooms, a modern social hub lounge, a Pool & Pizza Bar, event spaces, and diverse dining options, including a mix of European and local snacks.
The President urged visitors to maintain the facility’s cleanliness, emphasizing collective responsibility in preserving such establishments.
Dr. Ali outlined various sectors, including healthcare, tourism, infrastructure, and agriculture, where ongoing investments aim to diversify and grow the local economy. He assured that the government’s investment regime aligns with the nation’s developmental priorities.
Supporting these sentiments, Dr. Peter Ramsaroop, Guyana’s Chief Investment Officer, assured that investors will continue to come to Guyana due to the government’s commitment to delivering on promises.
Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce Susan Rodrigues acknowledged that the presence of a globally recognized brand like AC Marriott signals that Guyana is competitive and open for business. She noted that this investment reinforces Guyana’s reputation as a leading tourism destination for both leisure and business travelers.
Over the past five years, Rodrigues pointed out an addition of 600 hotel rooms through six new hotels, with 15 hotels currently under construction across the country, including other internationally recognized brands like Hyatt and Four Points by Sheraton. Together, these developments are expected to add nearly 2,000 rooms to Guyana’s national inventory within the year, showcasing strong investor confidence and a robust tourism sector trajectory.
“This rapid expansion is not accidental; it reflects a clear policy framework and steady growth in tourism,” she emphasized.
