Adriana Younge to Be Laid to Rest Month End

Adriana Younge to Be Laid to Rest by the end of June.

Kaiteur News Reports. After more than a month and two autopsies, 11-year-old Adriana Younge, whose body was mysteriously found in a swimming pool at the Double Day International Hotel, will finally be laid to rest by the end of this month.

This was confirmed by her family during an appearance on ‘The Reset Talk Show,’ hosted by Jr. Giddings. Adriana’s body was flown to the United States on May 26 for a second autopsy, which was conducted last Thursday by forensic pathologist Dr. Carol Terry, Chief Medical Examiner of Gwinnett County, Georgia. However, the autopsy did not yield a definitive conclusion due to insufficient information provided to Dr. Terry.

Despite this, the family has remained in the U.S., where they were honored by members of the New York community. Adriana’s aunt, Ameka Lewis, who appeared alongside Adriana’s mother, Amecia Simon, confirmed that the family will return to Guyana next week to begin funeral preparations. Lewis stated that the funeral is expected to take place by the end of June, although an official date has not yet been announced.

“We will be back home sometime next week, and we are looking at June month-end for the funeral, which will be done in Guyana,” Lewis said. “Contrary to all that has been out there, saying that Adriana was cremated here (in the U.S.), we brought her for burial. That’s not true. Adriana will be buried in Guyana, where she was born and lived.”

Adriana had recently completed the National Grade Six Assessment when she was reported missing on April 23 during a family outing at the Double Day International Hotel and Bar in Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo. Her body was discovered the next day—nearly 20 hours later—in an upright position in the hotel’s swimming pool, despite earlier searches of that area.

Family members reported visible bruises and scratches on her knees, elbows, face, hands, and toes. Strangely, her body showed no signs of bloating, a condition typically associated with drowning victims. These observations have deepened suspicions surrounding her death.

Before her body was found, police and hotel staff reportedly attempted to convince the family that she had been abducted from the premises. The discovery of her body in the pool sparked national outrage, violent protests, and widespread calls for justice.

The first post-mortem examination, conducted on April 28 by a three-member international forensic team, concluded that the cause of death was drowning. However, the team could not determine the time of death or confirm whether Adriana had inhaled pool or tap water.

Her funeral was initially scheduled for May 5 but was postponed at the last minute after Adriana’s parents and close relatives expressed doubts over the findings of the first autopsy. Feeling they still had many unanswered questions, the family chose not to proceed with the burial.

Determined to get more clarity, they arranged for a second autopsy in the U.S. Her body was flown to Atlanta, Georgia, where Dr. Carol Terry conducted the procedure. In an interview with journalist Travis Chase, Dr. Terry called the case “highly suspicious” and emphasized that only a thorough investigation could determine whether Adriana drowned or was murdered. “At this time, drowning cannot be conclusively stated as the cause of death,” she said.
