Advancement in Regularization of Skull City Squatting Area

News

The regularization process for the Skull City squatting area is making significant progress, with the Ministry of Housing already allocating lots to 33 households. The remaining allocations are currently in process, according to Local Government Minister Priya Manickchand.

During a visit to the community on Wednesday, Manickchand announced that a cadastral plan has been lodged in the registry, and preparations for the block title are underway, with completion anticipated in the first quarter of 2026.

She also met with the contractor responsible for ongoing roadworks, who assured her that the necessary drainage infrastructure would be completed by the end of January 2026. Additionally, plans are in place for engineers to assess the feasibility of developing a park and vendor strip on available land in the community.

Throughout her visit, Minister Manickchand engaged with residents, addressing their concerns and evaluating the environmental and infrastructural challenges affecting the area. The regularization initiative aims to provide residents in informal settlements with organized, sustainable development and improved living conditions.

This effort reflects the government’s commitment to enhancing the quality of life for residents in squatting areas and supporting them in gaining secure tenure over their homes.
