Amanza Walton-Desir Rejects “Bidding War” in Election Promises

  • News

Amanza Walton-Desir, Presidential Candidate of the Forward Guyana Movement, has made it clear that her party will not engage in a “bidding war” against opponents promising massive tax cuts and cash incentives as the country approaches the upcoming elections.

“We are taking a sober, measured approach towards development,” Walton-Desir stated in an interview with News Source. She emphasized that the Forward Guyana Movement aims to present a comprehensive vision through its upcoming manifesto, which will outline a contract with the people of Guyana.

The newly formed party is set to launch its manifesto, which aims to promote inclusivity, transparency, accountability, integrity, and sustainability. Walton-Desir criticized the recklessness of making grand promises without clear financial backing, stating, “It is reckless to say to the people of Guyana, that I will do x and y and z, if you cannot demonstrate how it is sustainable.”

She highlighted the need for a long-term national strategic plan that prioritizes the development of both the country and its people. “For a very long time, the emphasis has been on everything but our people,” she noted.

Walton-Desir expressed the Forward Guyana Movement’s commitment to systemic change, asserting that their policies and programs will aim for lasting positive impacts. “We have to fix the broken system and improve your lives simultaneously,” she added.

Among the key initiatives the party plans to champion are public transportation improvements, price control measures, and the subsidization of basic food items. The Forward Guyana Movement is one of six political parties contesting the upcoming elections, focusing on realistic and sustainable approaches to governance.
