APNU Condemns Anil Nandlall’s Comments on House Slaves as “Ignorant and Repugnant”

News

The APNU Coalition has issued a strong condemnation of Anil Nandlall’s recent statement regarding national hero Cuffy, describing it as “totally ignorant and repugnant.” Nandlall remarked, “Cuffy was a proud and upstanding house slave. Nothing wrong with being a house slave,” which has sparked outrage among members of the coalition.

Cuffy, recognized as a freedom fighter and revolutionary, led a rebellion in 1763 that aimed to break the shackles of slavery and dehumanization. The APNU emphasized that he organized the world’s first nation-state by freed Africans outside of Africa.

In their statement, the coalition urged all Guyanese to recognize the disrespectful attitude of the PPP towards Afro-Guyanese and their history. They called on Afro-Guyanese voters to pay special attention to Nandlall’s comments, asserting that they reflect the broader mindset of his party rather than a mere slip of the tongue. The APNU indicated that they would address this issue further in future discussions.
