Armed Robbery in Herstelling New Scheme: Several Stolen Items Recovered

An armed robbery on Thursday night resulted in the recovery of stolen phones and suspected counterfeit cash following a swift police response.

According to Police Headquarters, a 59-year-old businesswoman was targeted by two armed men around 21:15 hrs while walking along a street. The suspects approached her, with one brandishing what appeared to be a handgun and the other wielding a knife.

The assailant with the knife threatened the woman by placing it against her neck, demanding her valuables. In fear for her safety, the victim complied, surrendering two phones, $93,500 in cash, and other personal items. After the robbery, the suspects fled the scene in a motor vehicle.

Police acted on information received and subsequently located a vehicle believed to be connected to the robbery at a residence in Bougainvillea Park, Farm, East Bank Demerara. A search of the vehicle and surrounding premises uncovered one of the stolen cell phones, along with several additional phones, two toy guns, a cutlass, a pair of scissors, a quantity of cash suspected to be counterfeit, and a bottle of wine.

Four individuals were arrested in connection with the incident: a 21-year-old driver, a 28-year-old laborer, a 19-year-old female, and a 24-year-old porter, all from Bougainvillea Park. Investigations are ongoing as authorities work to piece together the details surrounding the robbery.
