Azruddin Mohamed, the Presidential Candidate for the We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) party, has pledged to establish a cold case unit aimed at investigating all unsolved murders in Guyana, asserting that justice must be served for the families affected.

In a recorded interview with the party’s General Secretary, Odessa Primus, Mohamed, a first-time contender in the Presidential race, expressed confidence in his party’s prospects as the elections approach on Monday. He outlined a series of reforms intended to overhaul the criminal justice system.
“I will spare no resources to ensure that families get justice. I will set up a cold case unit to investigate all murders that have occurred in the past,” Mohamed promised.
The WIN leader also committed to launching a full investigation into the death of Adrianna Younge within his first 100 days in office, should he be elected. He criticized the current government’s handling of criminal investigations, attributing the failures of the justice system to governmental interference.
“Police must do police work; that is the problem. I would not allow any of my ministers to instruct the Commissioner of Police or any commander to release individuals. Police must operate independently, and that is where the issues lie, as seen in the case of Adrianna Younge,” he stated.
Additionally, Mohamed expressed his intent to closely examine the Mahdia dorm fire tragedy, which claimed the lives of 20 children in May 2023. He indicated that many parents have approached him, claiming that inadequate actions have been taken to ensure justice, with families receiving only small compensation offers.
As the election date nears, Mohamed’s promises reflect a broader commitment to addressing public safety and justice concerns that resonate with many Guyanese citizens.
