Asif Bacchus, a 43-year-old unemployed man from Arcade Street, has been sentenced to four years in prison for possession of narcotics with the intent to traffic.

Bacchus appeared via Zoom at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court on Friday, February 13, 2026, before Magistrate Ravindra Mohabir, where the charge, a violation of Section 5(1)(a)(i) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Act, was read to him.
In a decisive turn, Bacchus pleaded guilty to the charge and was subsequently sentenced to forty-eight months of imprisonment. This sentencing highlights the ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region.
