Bartica Taxi Driver Charged with Receiving Stolen Goods

Marlon Jones, a 38-year-old taxi driver residing at Lot 106 Third Avenue, has been charged with receiving stolen articles.

Jones was arrested on June 15, 2025, and subsequently charged on June 17, 2025, under Section 237(1) of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act, Chapter 8:01. The stolen items in question reportedly belonged to Jianmei Qiu, a Chinese national.

On Tuesday, June 18, Jones appeared before His Worship Teriq Mohammed at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court, where the charge was formally read. He pleaded not guilty to the allegations.

Following the proceedings, Jones was granted bail in the amount of $80,000. The case has been adjourned and is set to return to court on July 21, 2025.
