Beatrice Elizabeth Johnson, affectionately known as “Cousin Vye,” marked a remarkable milestone on Monday as she celebrated her 100th birthday, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on February 16, 1926, in Lot 20 Litchfield Village, West Coast Berbice, Johnson has always held the belief that she would reach this century mark. Reflecting on her life, she attributes her longevity to her unwavering faith in God.
After completing her education in her hometown, Johnson became a talented beautician and seamstress. She later married her husband, who has since passed away, and together they created a nurturing home for their seven children. Despite the loss of four of her children, her family’s legacy continues through a vast lineage.
Today, Johnson proudly boasts a family tree that includes 18 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
She spent many of her years in Mackenzie, Linden, Region 10, before moving to the United States. Throughout her life’s changes, her faith has remained steadfast. As a devoted member of the St. Jude Anglican Church, Johnson firmly believes that her trust in God is the true secret to her long life.
“I believe in God. Trust God for everything; always holding on to Him. Whatever I think, I thank God’s way, and that’s my secret for living this long,” she shared.
Even at the age of 100, Johnson maintains a simple yet fulfilling daily routine. Her meals include biscuits for breakfast, followed by soup, mashed potatoes, and other home-cooked favorites. While she faces some challenges with her hearing and arthritis, she remains active and continues to read her Bible, grateful for her good eyesight.
Now lovingly supported by family members Morna and Alicia, Johnson enjoys her days filled with affection. As she reflects on her century of life, she offers heartfelt words of wisdom to the younger generations:
“Live for God and you will see everything; all your wishes will come true,” she encourages.
Her celebration was not just a milestone but a testament to her rich life and the values she holds dear.
