The body of a male newborn baby, still attached to his umbilical cord, was discovered floating in the Demerara River near the wharf area at Friendship, East Bank Demerara. The sighting occurred around 2:30 PM on July 8, 2025, by a group of men working on a vessel.

Upon noticing the remains, the workers promptly informed authorities. They reported that contact was made with a police officer, who assured them that the information would be relayed to superiors. However, as of the latest updates, the remains of the baby were still floating in the river.
The men described the location as being opposite the Friendship Primary School, adjacent to the Guyoil Gas Station. After realizing that no one had arrived to remove the body, the workers decided to reach out to the media for assistance.
The situation has raised concerns regarding the circumstances surrounding the incident, prompting calls for immediate action from local authorities. Further updates are expected as the investigation proceeds.
