Body-Worn Cameras Introduced in Guyana Prison Service

  • News

The Guyana Prison Service has launched body-worn cameras for officers to enhance security, transparency, and accountability within the prison system.

Director of Prisons Nicklon Elliot officially launched the initiative at Lusignan Prison on August 19, 2025. He stated that the cameras will help monitor activities and improve operational efficiency while aiding in investigations. The cameras, attached to officers’ uniforms, activate upon command and feature high-quality digital recording.

This initiative is part of a broader government investment to improve prison safety and staff protection. The technology will soon be rolled out across various prison locations as part of efforts to foster a culture of accountability in corrections.
