Lawrence Joseph, a 38-year-old businessman known as “Tuggy,” was arrested on January 1, 2026, after being found in possession of a .40 Smith & Wesson pistol along with one live round of matching ammunition. Following the discovery, he was charged with two offenses: possession of a firearm without a license and possession of ammunition without a license, in violation of Section 16(2)(a) of the Firearms Act, Chapter 16:05.

Joseph appeared before Magistrate Clive Nurse at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court on Friday, where he entered a plea of not guilty. Due to the nature of the charges, bail was denied, and he was remanded to prison.
His next court appearance is scheduled for February 20, 2026, as authorities continue to investigate the matter.
