The Customs Anti Narcotic Unit (CANU) has received official notifications from international law enforcement agencies regarding the discovery of cocaine concealed within two separate containers, both of which originated from Guyana.

The containers, declared as containing rice and chemicals, underwent thorough inspections before departing from Guyana. At the time of the inspections, no irregularities were detected. However, these containers were subsequently intercepted in a European and South American territory.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the cocaine was likely introduced during the transhipment process, a tactic commonly employed by transnational drug trafficking networks to exploit vulnerabilities in security measures at ports of origin.
CANU is actively collaborating with its international counterparts to further investigate these incidents. Due to the sensitive nature of the inquiries, additional details are currently unavailable.
The Customs Anti Narcotic Unit remains dedicated to combating narcotics trafficking and is committed to enhancing cooperation with regional and international partners to dismantle criminal networks. Additionally, CANU is working closely with domestic agencies, including the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) and the Guyana Police Force (GPF), as part of its ongoing investigations into this matter.
